Fast-Paced Single-Player FPS with Power-Up/Attack Crafting System made in Unreal Engine for Abertay University’s DARE Academy Competition

Gobblin is a first-person arena-style action game with time-trial elements. Eat food to craft magical dishes that can be used to knock out enemies and move through the level. This game was created as part of Abertay’s DARE Academy competition, which saw 6 teams work over a few months to develop their games. Currently, the plan is to continue development on Gobblin to publish it on Steam.

I was one of two programmers in the eight-person team working on this project. My main contributions so far have been developing the main crafting mechanic, implementing functionality for 2/5 of the current attacks, using Unreal Engine behaviour trees to implement the enemy AI, setting up a majority of the UI logic and functionality, and converting much of the blueprint prototype implementations into C++.

Going forward, I will also be taking on some production responsibilities, so I will be scheduling and managing development meetings and generally facilitating team communication. I am looking forward to this as I see it as a great opportunity to keep up with my soft skills of communication, organisation, and time management, as not only will I need to use these in my own work, but also in supporting the rest of the team with their work
